Amuru – Over 3700 residents of Cam-nam parish famously known as Wadi-kampala landing side in Kilak South and Apaa are living in total panic as they are left without anything to eat and put on following last week’s land eviction carried out by Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Olum Peter – the village chief [Rwot kweri] in an interview with our reporter on phone Wednesday said that most of the victims are sleeping outside without anything to eat as their food items have been looted up by soldiers who carried out the eviction.

He added that banana gardens [plantation] worth 10 hectors was also slashed down, 48 huts demolished and 5 set of fire, leaving locals in complete panic.

Mr Olum added that victims of the eviction are currently doing odd jobs in the nearby farms to get something to eat.

He however appealed to government for immediate intervention and dispatch relief items to the affected people who are left without anything.

Kilak South MP, Gilbert Olanya who is also the General Secretary Acholi Parliamentary Group last week during a press conference at Gulu main post office condemned the act and the brutality by Uganda Wildlife Authority for not respecting the presidential directive to stop any activity in the area until the matter is solved.

Olanya appealed to the victim to stay calm as they try to engage government for immediate intervention.

The contested land of Apaa in Amuru district has claimed very many lives and left very many people homeless, some people left injured and some children left without their parents during times of defending their land rights.

The committee formed on Apaa land saga had conflicting sides. It arose after president Museveni’s directive who also appointed the Prime Minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda to lead a delegation from the government side to help resolve the saga among the two districts of Amuru and Adjumani and Uganda Wild Life Authority.

Information and communications officer at Uganda Wildlife Authority, Hanji Basilr told our reporter that he was not aware of the ongoing eviction in Apaa.
