34 suspects given bonds during festive season

Police in Aswa region say it has given bonds to a total of 34 people who were arrested between 24th and 27th of December this year.

According to the Aswa region police spokesperson, Patrick Jimmy Okema, the suspects were released to decongest the police cells.

He says, in Amuru district, 4 people were given police bond of the 21 arrested while at Gulu central police station, 69 people were arrested and 30 were set free.

Those released, according to police had no grave offenses and were occupying space for serious criminals.

The now free men and women were arrested in an operation conducted by regional police in a bid to keep law and order during festive season.

“We appeal to the accusers of the suspects not to think that the suspects connived with the police. The suspects have their constitutional rights to be given bond,” Police mouthpiece, Okema tells TND News Uganda.
