Mbale RR hospital expresses need for outreaches to address diabetes

The Mbale Regional Referral Hospital administrator Dr. Emmanuel Tugaineyo has expressed need in including diabetes in the hospital outreach program.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting of Uganda Diabetes Association [UDA] held at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, Tugaineyo said that there is an increase of diabetic cases [patients]in the country.

Accordingto Tugaineyo, the Uganda Diabetes Association data in Bugisu sub-region, over3000 members are diabetic and on treatment.

“This calls for a redress by carrying out outreaches across,” he said.

Dr. Stephen Obbo – a physician at Mbale Regional Referral Hospital, also a former chairperson of the association, noted that they are going to make use of more outreaches to help diabetic sick ones access medical treatment in their health facilities, which he says will reduce on transport costs.

The guest of honor at the meeting, the Umukuuka of the Bamasaaba, Sir Bob Mushikori applauded the association for coming up with the idea to address the disease especially for members.
