Harriet Anena, a Ugandan journalist and a senior staff with African Centre for Media Excellence [ACME] has won this year’ Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa.
Hailing from Gulu district – north of Uganda’s Capital, Kampala, she’s the first Ugandan journalist and poet to receive such prestigious award.
“Super happy to be the joint winner of the Wole Soyinka Prize for Literature in Africa, 2018, for my book A Nation in Labour,” she tweeted.
She was a joint winner with Tanure Ojaide from Nigeria who wrote Songs of Myself. They both shared a cash prize of $10,000, about 37,000,000 million Uganda shillings.
The award gala took place at Muson Centre, Lagos – Nigeria
