Amb. Julius Peter Moto presents his credentials to Ireland’s President Higgins

Ireland – 6th, December, 2018 – H.E. Julius Peter Moto, Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda accredited to Ireland on Thursday presented his Letters of Credence to the President of Ireland, H.E. Michael D. Higgins at Áras an Uachtaráin (Presidential House) located in Dublin.

He was accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission, Amb. John Leonard Mugerwa and Mr. Moses Mpungu, Second Secretary.

The Ambassador conveyed fraternal greetings from H.E. President Yoweri Museveni and expressed Uganda’s appreciation for Ireland’s support and development cooperation in priority areas such as education, agriculture, health and governance.

Amb. Moto pledged to further strengthen relations between the two countries, especially in trade, tourism and investment.

H.E. President Higgins expressed satisfaction with the cordial bilateral relations and recalled his previous visits to Uganda prior to becoming President. He underscored the need to scale up cooperation in trade and investment.

Later, H.E. Julius Peter Moto hosted a Vin d’Honneur Reception at Camden Court Hotel, Dublin attended by the diplomatic corps, officials from the Irish government and the Ugandan community in Ireland, a press statement released on Thursday reveals.

Today, Mr Moto is expected to hold meetings with Mr. Ruairi de Burca, Director General of Irish Aid, Mr. Kevin Smyth, Assistant Secretary, Department of Agriculture, and Mr. Frank Smyth, Director, UN Coordination, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

“He will also address, on the same day, a Business Round table comprising Irish and Ugandan companies on trade and investment opportunities in Uganda, at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade,” statement issued on Thursday further reads.
