President Donald Trump’s administration through its Embassy in Kampala, Uganda has issued a statement following the recent horrific political games in the country.
In its Friday pronouncement, U.S. Embassy in Kampala demands Ugandan authorities to have those detained have the right to humane treatment and doctors of their choice.
They further condemned brutal treatment of Ugandan civilian, journalists and Members of Parliament.
“We are deeply concerned by recent events in Arua, Kampala, and Gulu, and disturbed by reports of brutal treatment of Members of Parliament, journalists, and others at the hands of security forces. All of those detained have the right to humane treatment, due process, access to lawyers and to their families, and a prompt, fair, and transparent trial. Those who need medical attention should be granted immediate access to a doctor of their choice. We urge the Government to show the world that Uganda respects its constitution and the human rights of all of its citizens,” the statement reads in detail.
On Monday, 13, August, 2018 in Arua Municipality, police and Special Forces Command [SFC] – UPDF arrested at least 34 Ugandans.
Of those arrested, MPs Robert Kyagulanyi, Gerald Karuhanga, Francis Zaake, Kassiano Wadri, Mike Mabike [former MP], Paul Mwiru among others were arrested, and allegedly tortured by security forces.

Two NTV Uganda Journalists – Herbert Zziwa and Ronnie Muwanga were arrested and whisked from Arua to Gulu Central Police Station, from where they were released on Police bond the following day.
The above MPs have been charged with treason and possession of illegal firearm by magistrates Court in Gulu and General Court Martial sitting in Gulu on Thursday.
Ugandans, from all walks of life, using various platforms are expressing their heartfelt messages to the victims of Monday political bad games in Arua.
Others [Ugandans] and those in diaspora are begging President Museveni to pardon them, especially MPs Bobi Wine and Francis Zaake who are all in bad health statuses.
Apart from issuing statements on Monday incident, President Museveni hasn’t shown any sign of forgiving the above detained Ugandan Lawmakers.
