Parents in these homes prefer that their children use English and any other foreign language for reasons best known to them.

Some parents says that their children need to learn English because it’s the language they often use at school and any other place and they don’t think it’s important for their children to learn their mother tongue as well.

Betty Adong, a resident of Omoro Town Council in Omoro district says she want her children to speak only English for easy communication.

However, Ogwal Ronald Regan the head teacher of Partek Bar primary school in Omoro district says there’s no problem for a child to speak only English at home or vernacular.

Ogwal noted that a problem would only arise if children were required to use another language at school.

Millton Obong Katigaya, an English teacher at St. Francise Primary School in Omoro town council revealed that a local language one learns from home is a big resource to that child.

“And if he or she goes to school and he or she is denied to learn through that language, it becomes damaging,” Obong revealed.

“Mother language plays a very big role in a child’s development and it is not about backwardness,” he added.

The donation, according to WV officials is aimed at instilling a reading culture geared at improving education performance among learners.

The donated books are also intended to reduce the ration of one book for 20 pupils.

This, according to some teachers who interacted with this news website was making it difficult to improve on learners’ performances.

According to Edward Muginyi the programs manager at World Vision, the books are going to help learners understand what they are taught by teachers in class and also expand on on their knowledge about a particular subject.

Shortly after receiving the text books, pupils who spoke to our correspondent hailed the organization, saying in unison that the ‘books are going to aid us in intensive revision’.
