Wakiso – 3 June 2018: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today assured the Anglican people that Church House located in the heart of Kampala won’t be taken from them.
Mr. Museveni who was the main celebrant for this year’s Namugongo Martyrs Day in Wakiso district, said he worked hard with other Anglican Church leaders to build the magnificent building.
According to the President, he read from the media on Sunday how some businessmen in the country want to take the House away from Church.
“I have read in the newspaper today that some businessmen want to take the Church House from you, as leaders, we can’t allow it. You (Anglican) have done a great job and we can’t see it being taken by business people,” Museveni said.
With financial assistance from Equity Bank Uganda and contribution from Christians in all the Anglican Churches countrywide, the Anglican Church was able to construct the House worth billions.
Museveni applauds Anglican Church
“When we declared 3rd June a public holiday, I would go to the Catholic shrine and find it full while you (Anglican) are few. But today, you are picking up and I see many have nowhere to sit on and uncomfortable. I congratulate you,” Museveni said.
Museveni further advised the Church leaders to improve on some infrastructural areas now that renovation of the Museum is done.
“I am congratulating the pilgrims. In the past and originally, people didn’t know the majority of the Martyrs were Protestant (Anglican). Many knew Catholic were many,” he added.
