Nwoya district local government has passed a budget worth over 20.6 bn for the financial year 2018/19. The budget slightly increased from last financial year (2017-2018)’s Shs.16bn.

At the approval, the full council meeting held at Nwoya district council hall resolved to have the education taking a lion’s share to improve the standard of education in the district.

However the money have been allocated in the different departments with education department getting an allocation of Shs. 6.2Bn, health Shs. 4.1bn, community based services 3.6b, natural resources Shs.211m and marketing takes Shs.1.8bn.

Nwoya district chairperson Okello Patrick Oryema said that half of the remaining money should be used for paying wages and salaries of the district employees.

He however appealed to the council and the sub- county leaders to identify more revenue channels to help the district achieve its budget for the financial year.

However, Odong Charles Akena, a councilor representing persons with disabilities (PWDs) urged the district to allocate more funds for persons with disabilities since only Shs.13million conditional grants were allocated to disabilities.

According to Akena, PWDs are always lagging behind in terms of services delivery and no school in the district favors children with disabilities.
